Minnesota’s Most Underrated City is Right Under Our Nose

If a place is considered 'underrated' it makes me want to go! To me, that means it's a place that's actually pretty awesome but not enough people realize that. Well, one travel blogger decided to reveal the most underrated city in each state and I wanted to talk about the Minnesota city on the list. It surprised me a bit, but as I thought about it, it made sense.

What Makes Something 'Underrated'?

Merriam-Webster defines underrated as something that is "rated or valued too low". I'm sure there are plenty of those kinds of places in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. And honestly, I would agree with the city that was named the most underrated in Minnesota.

Underrated Places in Minnesota

I'd say some of Minnesota's most underrated places are nature spots, like state parks. We've got some really beautiful spaces around here!

But also, one that I went to a few years back that seems underrated to me is Grand Portage, specifically the National Monument.

It's up north, past Duluth, near the Minnesota-Canada border. The history of the people who lived there, how they lived, and the trek they made to trade with others was really interesting. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Minnesota's Most Underrated City

The city that has been deemed the most underrated is a place we've all heard of.

According to the travel blog Love Exploring, Minnesota's most underrated city is none other than our state capitol, St. Paul! I was very surprised at first to read this. But as I thought about it more, it made sense.

St. Paul has some great things to offer. The downtown area is super cool to explore, you can visit the cathedral, the Science Museum, and the Como Zoo is nearby.

But I understand it being named the most underrated because St. Paul always seems to get overshadowed by Minneapolis. That's where all the younger people tend to decide to go out, in Minneapolis. Uptown is a really popular spot. So St. Paul isn't getting the love it deserves.

Love Exploring even points that out, saying "Minnesota's state capital is often overlooked in favor of neighboring Minneapolis". But what do you think, would you agree that St. Paul is underrated?
