I’m not a big movie-goer. The last movie I saw in the theater was probably “The Lego Movie” with my kids. Yep, it’s been that long.

I’m not really much of a movie-watcher, either. I tend to prefer TV series or sporting events. This weekend was different, though. With the long weekend, and the spotty weather, it seemed like a good time to catch up on a few flicks. So, I headed to the rental place and grabbed five DVDs. I wish I hadn’t grabbed two of them. They were awful!

Both of my movie bombs this weekend were comedy sequels. I had seen both of the first efforts and at least semi-enjoyed them. The second attempts, however, were complete wastes of time. The two movies that are now entrenched on my “worst ever list” are: ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’ and ‘Horrible Bosses 2’. Yep, two comedy sequels that really just weren’t that funny.

Dunken and I were talking about this today when, suddenly, it dawned on us. There are very few, if any, really good comedy sequels. We had some theories as to why that is, with the main one being that comedy sequels tend to rely on the same funny stuff that they had in the first movie. There is a lack of originality in them. Another was the fact that everybody seems to want their entertainment to be self-contained, with a beginning and an end. People don’t want stories that take three or four movies to tell.

What’s the last good comedy sequel you can remember seeing? We stumped a few co-workers with that question. Have we stumped you? Can you name a good comedy sequel? If so, share it with us here!
