Okay, so we all know that zombies aren't real. But, hypothetically, what if something like a zombie apocalypse hit the United States? Just how safe would we be here in Olmsted County?

For some reason, real estate website FindTheHome did a study to determine where in the country people would be most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse. The site took the following factors into account, ranking counties with scores ranging from 0-100, with the higher numbers being better:

1. Best Places to Find Resources - in any apocalypse situation, commodities such as an abundance of water and food, or at least the ability to grow food, become vital. Our area offers a lot in the way of natural resources, and Olmsted County rates high in this area with a score of 71.4587.

2. Best Places to Defend Yourself - While Olmsted County doesn't house any major military bases, Minnesota is a big-time hunting state and there are plenty of hunters around here who might just turn zombie hunting into a sport! Olmsted County comes in with a score of 70.9567 in terms of being able to defend ourselves from the zombie apocalypse.

3. Where People are Most Likely to Survive - This one factored in such data as having a young, well-educated population that would be able to adapt to such a catastrophic event as zombies. Olmsted Country fared well in this area, with a score of 78.2745. Personally, with all the medical personnel we have in the area, I'd have thought we'd rank even higher. If a zombie cure or vaccine was going to be produced anywhere in the country I would think right here at the Mayo Clinic is where it would be created!

By ranking so highly in all the areas, Olmsted County actually received a total score of 93.8, making it one of the highest-ranking counties in the United States. So, rest assured, if zombies ever walk out of our TVs and into real life, we'll be in a good position to survive the grave danger they would pose. I don't know about you, but that sure makes me rest easier!
