Cafe Steam Location Closes in Rochester, New One Opening Soon

I'm a big Cafe Steam fan. So I was so sad when all of a sudden the location just across the street from the station in downtown closed! Never fear, though, a new location is coming soon.

Cafe Steam is a staple coffee shop in the Rochester, Minnesota coffee scene. They have three locations, all in the downtown area. But for now, they only have two as one of them just closed this week.

Cafe Steam Location Closes

The location I'm talking about is the Discovery One location. Or One Discovery Square location. How do people actually say the name of that building?

Anyway, that Cafe Steam location just closed yesterday, Tuesday, January 23rd. And if you were a regular at that particular location, and especially if you went later in the week last week, you knew this was coming.

I heard from a co-worker that late last week there was a sign by the register saying they were closing on the 23rd. Very sad for me because I love to just hop across the street and grab a treat for myself sometimes.

But don't worry fellow Cafe Steam lovers, that location closed because it's being moved.

Cafe Steam is Moving Locations

I wrote a post back in May 2023 about this move happening. With the Discovery Two building getting up and running, Cafe Steam decided they wanted to move to a bigger area than what's available at the Discovery One location. So they're currently in the process of moving everything to the next building over.

Great news for me, I don't have to go much further at all for my coffee! Bad news for my wallet, though.

There's also this awesome courtyard area close to the new location, too. I anticipate I'll be spending many summer days working from here:

The plan, according to the sign outside of the Discovery One location, is to open up the new location in Discovery Two on Tuesday, January 30th.

That's a short period of time to finish construction, move everything, and get it all set up! But when I stopped by yesterday, they were definitely working hard.

I was hoping to grab a picture or two of the progress on the new location but the construction crew asked me to not take any pictures at that time. It seemed like it was because it was VERY under construction and not ready for a photoshoot. So he asked me to come back in a few days. I plan to pop back over there at the end of the week and get a picture or two to share with you back here!
