Facebook Testing new Technology to Combat Revenge Porn
Does one of your exes have inappropriate pictures of you? Worried about what he/she will do with them?
Facebook is testing new technology that the company hopes will help in dealing with revenge porn. The social network says it uses image recognition to identify revenge porn and automatically delete it. As of now it's only being tested in Australia.
You have to send that dirty photo that you texted to your boyfriend/girlfriend to yourself using via Facebook Messenger. Seems a little creepy but it makes sense. The software has to see the pic to create a digital fingerprint of the photo. The social network says their photo-detecting software will immediately recognize that pic when posted and destroy it.
The goal is to destroy 'revenge porn' but I suppose you could upload any pic to have destroyed. Maybe one of your co-workers snapped an embarrassing pic of you acting drunk at a company party. With this technology you'd be able to send that pic to yourself and have it erased from social media.
Again this only being tested in Australia right now, so there's no need to fill your inbox with dirty pics, yet.
