Ford Issues Massive Truck Recall Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota
Over half a million Ford pickup trucks are being recalled due to a transmission malfunction in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, and across the U.S.
The issue causes the vehicles to suddenly shift into first gear, regardless of their current speed.
This recall affects specific F-150 models manufactured in 2014.
It's worth noting that Ford's F-Series trucks are the best-selling vehicles in the country.
According to documents Ford submitted to U.S. safety regulators this unexpected downshifting could lead to drivers losing control of their vehicles, thereby increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Ford Motor Company wrote...
“Some vehicles may experience an intermittent loss of the transmission Output Shaft Speed sensor signal to the Powertrain Control Module potentially resulting in a temporary, unintended downshift into first gear.
Depending on the vehicle speed at the time of an intermittent OSS failure, an abrupt transmission downshift to first gear could occur.
A downshift to first gear without warning could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
Dealers will update the powertrain control module software, free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1, 2024.
