Here’s Why Rochester Parents Need to Beware of the ‘Deodorant Challenge’
A worried mother has warned other parents about a dangerous new social media craze that is leaving children's skin covered in burns.
Ever hear of the "Deodorant Challenge"? Well you will now.
The gist of it is kids will hold deodorant bottles just a few inches above their skin before pressing and holding the aerosol for as long as possible... What even makes this even dumber is they'll even film themselves doing it.
According to one family, this 12-year-old girl thought it "looked really cool" and that's when she and her friends started to do it themselves.
The doctor in the video explained how the deodorant cools down the skin very rapidly so you essentially get frost bite. Once that happens you could get an infection as well as permanently damage the pigment in the skin.
Prior to the television appearance, this girl's mom made other parents aware of the craze by sharing an image of her daughter's burns on Facebook:
This new and harmful craze follows the "Salt and Ice Challenge," which emerged earlier this year and left multiple children with serious burns.
Parents, please warn your kids about the dangers of this challenge!
