
Ghostly Experiences Shared by Hubbell House Workers in MN
One of Minnesota’s oldest restaurants may also be one of its most haunted.
The Hubbell House, a historic dining establishment in Mantorville, was built in 1856, four years before Minnesota became a state. Over its 169-year history, it has hosted everyone from U.S. presidents to NFL greats. But according to locals and employees, some guests may have never left.

In the 1930s, the Hubble House was passed down to Paul Pappas by his father-in-law and stayed in the Pappas family until 2020, when it was sold to the Powers Ventures Group. Despite the change in ownership, reports of unexplained activity inside the restaurant remain the same.

The Hubbell House is one of several historic buildings featured in Mantorville’s ghost tours, led by Dr. Hawk Horvath. Other stops include the 1918 Opera House, the Restoration House, the Old Log Cabin, and the Dodge County Historical Society.
Christopher S. Larsen, author of “Haunted Mantorville: Trailing the Ghosts of Old Minnesota,” called the town “the most haunted in the Midwest per capita” in a 2023 interview with the Star Tribune.
Now, employees of The Hubbell House are sharing their own stories of the unexplained, offering new insight into the restaurant’s haunted reputation.
