Is Minneapolis Really The Worst City To Live In Minnesota?
It’s been established time and time again that Minnesota is one of the best states to live in America. Most of us are pretty happy here. But one website came out with a new ranking that should have us in Rochester feeling pretty smug.
The website 24/7 Wall St. came out with a list of the Worst Cities to Live In Every State, with Minneapolis being the big “winner” for the North Star State.
Why is Minneapolis so bad?
The website argues that 19.5% of residents live below the poverty line, which is almost double the statewide rate. There’s also the high cost of living – goods and services are 4.3% more expensive than the nationwide average.
Finally, it’s the crime rate that really gives Minneapolis a bad name; with 1,063 violent crimes per 100,000 Minnesotans, Minneapolis has four times the crime compared to any other Minnesota city. Yikes.
Having lived in Minneapolis for almost 5 years, I can say that it’s definitely not a terrible place to live, so I wouldn’t take this list to heart too much. That being said, last month I remember reading about a shooting that took place a few blocks away from my old apartment, so…
…Viva Rochester!
