The reason towards the split (at least for now) simply comes down to money, and lots of it.

Peterson was due a $6 million bonus on March 11 and another $11.75 million for the 2017 season, along with a $250,000 workout bonus. That adds up for a whopping total of $18 million.

For someone who's been injured and/or suspended the past two out of three seasons, that's simply just too much money to pay a running back, who by the way turns 32 next month.

“Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization,” said Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman. “We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties moving forward.”

So while it's still possible Peterson could re-sign with the Vikings for less money, all indications from his camp make it sound like he's still worth $18 million dollars in a league that's gravitated towards the pass the past several years, which makes the running game some-what expendable for most teams that may have a great quarterback.

Certainly that's not what I'm implying with what the Vikings have, as they've got both Sam Bradford under center, and a hobbled Teddy Bridgewater on the roster recovering from a horrific knee injury. Who they'll sign as a backup to Sam this year is still a huge question mark?

But as of right now it looks like we may have seen the last of All-Day in purple.
