Minnesota is a great state to go camping in. There are so many campgrounds that offer breathtaking views, fun activities, and fun on the water. With so many options out there for campgrounds, whether State Parks or private, which ones stand out above the rest?

5. Whitewater State Park

Whitewater State Park is located in Southeastern Minnesota. It features rugged hiking trails to scenic bluffland. There also is a noticeable lack of Mosquitoes, which you don't find often in Minnesota.

Trout fishermen will love the excellent fishing during summer and winter. Whitewater State Park also has spectacular wildflowers that bloom in the spring.

4. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park

This is one of the newest campgrounds in Minnesota! It's located on the Scenic North Shore of Lake Superior. Many of the cart-in campsites have a view of Lake Superior.

Take a historic lighthouse tour from the Minnesota Historical Society (separate fee). There's access to the Split Rock Wilds mountain bike trail, waterfalls to view, and newly drive-in electric sites available.

3. Gooseberry Falls State Park

Take a drive just a little south of Split Rock Lighthouse, and you'll find Gooseberry Falls State Park. Gooseberry is one of the most visited locations on the North Shore. There are hiking trails up and down the falls with majestic views.

2. Jay Cooke State Park

Jay Cooke State Park is right on the St. Louis River in Northeastern Minnesota near Carlton. There are over 50 miles of trails! The swinging bridge is a favorite for people to walk across.

They have multiple camping sites for both RVs and tents.

1. Itasca State Park

Itasca State Park is Minnesota's oldest state park, and definitely one of the best. It's located on the headwaters of the Mississippi River. You can even take boat tours! Campers can fish, hike, and explore the old-growth forest. It's one of the few state parks that has full hook-ups available for RVs.
