About 30 minutes after receiving the disabled vehicle report, authorities were alerted to a nearby burglary and vehicle theft.

Minnesota Authorities Arrest Fleeing Burglary & Theft Suspect Who Shot at Law Enforcement

A witness told law enforcement that the suspected vehicle thief was seen stopped near the disabled vehicle and taking items from it.

Around 8:30 a.m., dispatch took the report of a suspicious vehicle south of Amboy. Authorities found the vehicle and attempted to pull it over but the driver fled, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said.

Law enforcement deployed a tire-deflating device. The fleeing motorist avoided it and entered a farm field with law enforcement pursuing.

Gunshots in Farm Field

The driver then exited the vehicle and fired gunshots at a sheriff’s deputy and in the area as he fled on foot, authorities say.

Additional law enforcement arrived and sealed in the suspect by establishing a perimeter.

The man continued firing gunshots at law enforcement “several times”, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities Close in

Authorities then closed in on the subject once they realized he no longer had a firearm. The man continued to resist but was eventually taken into custody after authorities deployed less than lethal ammunition, according to law enforcement.

No injuries were reported.

Law enforcement found a gun buried in the field and multiple spent shell casings. The suspect’s name has not been released.

“Law Enforcement exercised extreme restraint, good judgment, and relied on their training to bring this situation to a safe conclusion. This incident could have ended in tragedy to the suspect or law enforcement,” the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says.
