Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow)- A Twin Cities teenager was killed in a traffic incident on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis Sunday night.

Authorities say the teen was outside of the car he was driving when he was fatally struck.

The State Patrol responded to the fatality shortly before 10 p.m.

Eden Prairie Teen Killed After Being Struck by Tesla on I-94 in Minneapolis

The deadly incident happened in a construction zone located near the I-94 and Olson Memorial Dr. interchange. 

The teen was traveling in the eastbound lane of I-94 when he struck a construction barrier that was dividing the main traffic lane and the exit lanes. 

After exiting the vehicle, the young man was struck by a Tesla Model 3. The second collision resulted in fatal injuries, the State Patrol says. 

18-Year-Old Victim Identified

He was identified as 18-year-old Drew Vonfisher of Eden Prairie. The State Patrol says he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

21-year-old Austin Muigai Muya of Champlin was identified as the Tesla driver. A 22-year-old woman was riding with her. 

Both occupants of the Tesla were not hurt.

Alcohol was not a factor in the fatal incident, according to the state crash report
