Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The local observance of Veterans Day will take place Friday morning at the International Event Center near the Rochester Airport. Local veterans are invited to enjoy breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. that will be followed by a program featuring former Marine Vince Reynolds.

His selection as keynote feature is fitting with the official observance of Veterans Day this year falling on the 242nd anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps. Organizers are inviting those attending the event to bring an unwrapped toy for donation to the Marines Toys for Tots Campaign.

Golf carts will available for anyone needing assistance in traveling from their parking spot to the entrance to the venue.

The official Veterans Day Program for the State of Minnesota will be held Saturday morning at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights beginning at 10 a.m. Governor Mark Dayton and other elected officials are expected to participate in the event, which will highlight the contributions of service members from the Vietnam War era.
Nearly all federal, state and local government buildings will be closed for the national holiday, although there will be U.S. Postal Service deliveries. The Olmsted County Recycling Center and Hazardous Waste Facility and the county’s Waste-to-Energy Facility are among the exceptions. The OWEF will be open as usual, and the recycling and hazardous waste center will be open on Friday but closed on Saturday. The Rochester Public Schools will also not be in session on Friday for the end of the quarter break.
