Lorde Donates $204,000 to Minnesota Immigrant Funds
She made the announcement on her Instagram story the other day with the words 'ICE Out' written on her hand. Per Billboard, Lorde writes:
“I’m donating our merch take in Minneapolis ($204k) to Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee + Immigrant Defense Network.”
Lorde played two shows in Minneapolis at The Armory back in October as part of her Ultrasound Tour. The money that she made in merch sales at those two shows, she is donating to those two funds mentioned. The total donation comes to $204,000.
Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee
If you're unfamiliar with the two organizations, the Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee "is an all-volunteer, grassroots, multiracial, and multinational immigrant rights mass-movement organization." They're fighting "for legalization for all, an end to immigration raids and deportations, an end to all anti-immigrant laws, and full equality in all areas of life."
Immigrant Defense Network
The other fund that Lorde donated to, the Immigrant Defense Network, is also a Minnesota fund whose mission is to ensure "that all immigrant communities are protected, empowered, and equipped to organize, engage in the political process, and defend their rights."
Other Artists Supporting Minnesota
Other celebrities who have expressed support for Minnesotans right now include Lizzo, who shared a video letting her fans know how they can help. Also, Justin and Hailey Bieber, and Billie Eilish were a few of the artists who arrived at the Grammys sporting 'ICE Out' pins.
