Interim Rochester Police Chief John Sherwin says the string of incidents that led to the arrest of 37-year-old Derik Webster started around 3 am Sunday when a Yellow Cab driver called and reported a customer had bolted from his cab in the vicinity of the Pepsi Plant off South Broadway without paying a $20 fare. The same cab driver later called the police and reported the man had left behind a duffel bag containing “a bunch of drugs.”

Sherwin says the responding officers were examining the 50 grams of marijuana in the bag when the dispatcher from the cab company contacted police to say a man called and indicated he had left some of his property in a cab and would like it delivered to a home very near where the original crime occurred. The delivery was made with an officer riding with the cab driver and several others in place around the residence in the 500 block of 33rd Street Southwest. Webster was arrested without incident once he took possession of the duffel bag.
