Minnesota is Home to One of the Most Expensive Places to Order Out

Whether you order out all the time or just every once in a while, it's not cheap, especially if you're getting it delivered. And unfortunately, Minnesota is home to one of the most expensive spots to order out.

How Much the Average American Spends on Dining Out

Sometimes I order out for fun or to treat myself. Other times I order out because of pure laziness. No matter the reason, it adds up.

According to a survey by US Foods, the average American spends $166 per person each month going out to eat. So for a family of four that's $664 per month.

Most Expensive Place to Order Out in Minnesota

This study was done by a blog called Casinos.us and they determined the most expensive and least expensive places to order DoorDash.

They selected the largest city in each state and a medium-sized city in each state. Then, over the course of a week, they simulated an order through DoorDash for the same items in each selected city.

They also ordered the food at different times throughout the week to see if there was a price difference. The times they 'ordered' in each city was noon, 7 PM, and midnight.

The items they ordered were:

a Large Bic Mac meal with a Coke from McDonald's,

a Large pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut,

10 Traditional Wings with Buffalo dry rub seasoning, carrots, and celery from Buffalo Wild Wings,

and a Venti iced coffee from Starbucks.

Here's what they found.

The Results

The least expensive spot to order takeout through DoorDash was New Orleans, LA where the average cost for the whole order was $128.88.

The most expensive spot was Honolulu, HI where the average cost for the whole order was a whopping $278.10. More than double the price than in New Orleans!

Unfortunately, Minneapolis also made it among the most expensive places to order DoorDash, coming in as the 9th most expensive. The total average cost for the whole order in Minneapolis was $228.44. Yikes!

They also found that typically midnight was the most expensive time to order and noon was the least expensive time to order across the board. Although, the price difference between ordering at noon and ordering at 7 PM wasn't too crazy.
