New Law Allows Minnesota Breweries to Sell THC Drinks on Tap
A new law took effect on July 1st, 2024 in Minnesota that now allows breweries to sell hemp-derived, THC-infused drinks on tap. This is big news for breweries who already were making and selling their own THC drinks in cans.

THC on Tap at Minnesota Breweries
Plenty of breweries across Minnesota have already been making and selling their own THC drinks but could only sell them in the can and buyers couldn't consume until they were off-premise.
Now, all of that has changed with the offering of THC drinks on tap. WCCO spoke with Headflyer Brewing in Minneapolis when the law changed because they were the first brewery to offer a THC drink on tap.
Dan Schnable, taproom manager, told WCCO,
"Having it on tap gives us so many different options for our consumers to taste it, to try it, to enjoy one while they're here on site ... It's more approachable because not everybody necessarily wants to come in and purchase an entire can and drink an entire can."
Minnesota is actually the first state to allow the sale of THC drinks on tap, according to Bring Me the News. Will breweries take advantage of it though?
Something interesting that I learned is that if a brewery were to decide to switch a tap to a THC drink, the cleaning that would have to go into it to prevent alcohol from accidentally getting in the THC drink is quite extensive.
It seems the best route for the brewery would be to have taps specifically for THC drinks. But that either means getting rid of a beer or two on tap or adding in new taps. All things that would need to be considered.
Will Rochester Breweries Offer THC Drinks on Tap?
After learning about this new law, I was curious if any of our Rochester breweries would be adding THC drinks to their tap list.
I sent messages to Forager, Thesis, Little Thistle, Kinney Creek, and LTS.
Forager said they aren't sure about future plans for putting THC drinks on tap but they do already offer their drinks to be consumed on-site, they're just in bottles.
LTS doesn't currently sell any THC products and they told me they don't have any plans to right now.
One of the breweries said that they WILL have THC on tap in the next week or so and that they're waiting on the next shipment of drinks to come in. I asked permission to share this information with all of you but they haven't gotten back to me yet so that's why I'm keeping them anonymous right now.
The other two I have not heard back from, so we'll have to wait and see!
