Minnesota Law: Do Speed Limits Start at the Sign or Where You Can First See the Sign?
At one point or another you've probably wondered where the speed limit officially starts.
Sgt. Troy Christianson of the Minnesota State Patrol recently answered the question, "The speed zone becomes effective when you reach the sign. If the speed limit reduces, you must slow down before the sign. If the speed limit increases, you must wait until you reach the new speed limit sign before increasing your speed."
Christianson also reminded motorists that extra patrol will be on the road for the next couple of weeks, "each year, illegal or unsafe speed is a leading contributing factor in Minnesota fatal crashes. To continue educating the public on the dangers of speed, law enforcement across Minnesota will conduct extra speed patrols July 6th – 22nd."
Drive at safe speeds and buckle up to avoid a ticket!
