A new study was just released that ranked every state by how likely people are to get hit and killed by a car. Check out where Minnesota ranked!

Judging by how people dart across the road in downtown by Mayo, and during the late night hours hopping from bar to bar, I didn't expect Minnesota to rank so highly on the safe scale. By highly, I mean THE safest place in the U.S.

The Governors Highway Safety Association's study was based on the number of pedestrians who were killed in 2014 compared to the size of the population.

In 2014, nearly 5,000 pedestrians were killed, while more than 32,000 traffic fatalities were reported throughout the U.S. In the report, traffic fatalities are actually lower than the past few years, while pedestrian deaths have increased.

Minnesota is actually the SAFEST place for pedestrians! Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin were also in the top 10 safest places.

Here are the most DANGEROUS states:

  1. New Mexico
  2. Florida
  3. Delaware
  4. Nevada
  5. Louisiana
