Minnesota’s Next Big Sky Show: Up to 100 Shooting Stars Per Hour!
Booking.com describes "noctourism" as people wanting to "escape the daylight crowds for midnight magic." People flocking to enjoy the night sky was predicted to be one of the hottest travel trends of 2025, with Minnesota being a popular destination.
People love seeing the Northern Lights dance around the sky, but there's another celestial event happening soon that promises to be incredible.
The Perseid meteor shower will deliver up to 100 shooting stars each hour, and you'll have a great view here in Minnesota.

Is a Shooting Star a Meteor?
Yes, "shooting star" is the non-scientific term for a meteor. They aren't actual stars falling from the sky, but rather tiny bits of space debris.
If any part of that debris makes it down to the Earth's surface, it's then called a meteorite.
What Is The Perseid Meteor Shower?
The Perseid meteor shower happens each year between mid-July and late August, with its peak typically around August 12-13.
Space.com says, "The Perseids result from Earth passing through debris — bits of ice and rock — left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, which last passed close to Earth in 1992."
How To See The Perseid Meteor Shower in Minnesota
The 2025 Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak on the morning of August 12th. NASA predicts as many as 100 meteors per hour during the early morning hours!
To best enjoy this show, find the darkest possible location away from city lights and allow your eyes plenty of time to adjust to the darkness.
No telescopes or binoculars are needed.
