New Minnesota Laws Taking Effect July 1st, 2026 That You Need to Know About
As we start the second half of 2026, July 1st marks the start of some new laws in Minnesota. I picked out which laws I think will impact us the most so you're up to date on what's changing.

Mental Health Warning Label on Social Media
This one I've written about before. Starting July 1st, when you open social media a message will pop up letting you know that what you see on social media may harm your mental health. It also, at minimum, must have the 988 support line number.
Anonymous Threat Reporting Systems for Schools
School district boards and charter school boards will be required to have an option to report a treat anonymously. While the law takes effect July 1st, 2026, boards won't be required to have a policy adopted until June 30th, 2027, and implementing it won't be required until July 1st, 2028. Some may adopt it sooner, though.
Mental Health Grant for Young Kids
A new grant takes effect July 1st, 2026, to help identify and treat mental health needs in young kids, under 5 years old. This grant could help catch mental health needs early and prevent future struggles.

July 1st, 2026 New Minnesota Laws
Those three laws are the ones that we most likely would see or use in our lives.
I'm really pleased that there will be a system in place to anonymously report threats in schools. Sometimes people don't say something for fear of what may happen if they're identified.
I'm also happy about both of the laws that are to help protect our mental health. Catching a mental health need early in kids can be really beneficial, and social media is so heavily tied to poor mental health that I think a warning label is a step in the right direction.
