Minnesotan Sells his Land to State Park for Others to Enjoy
A Minnesota man turned down an option that likely would have made him a lot of money and instead sold his land to the state of Minnesota. But why, and what will it be used for?
In case you aren't aware or haven't figured it out yet, I'm all about nature, wildlife, conservation efforts, etc. So I absolutely love this story and what this guy did.
His name is Myron and he owns a farm in Scandia. Based on KSTP's story, it sounds like Myron grew up on this farm. So when faced with the decision of who to sell the farm to must have been really difficult for him.
Or maybe not. He made the decision to not sell his land to developers. And with the way the housing market is going, he probably could have made a lot of money off of an offer from a developer. But no, he did practically the opposite and sold his land to the state of Minnesota.
Myron said that he sold the land to the state for it to be added on to the next-door state park, William O'Brien State Park. He told KSTP, “'They worked hard on that farm ... I just thought ... they would rather see it without houses than with houses.'”
What a great way to honor the hard work his parents put into the farm! And eventually, others will be able to enjoy Myron's land, too.
