It's not often you hear about something actually staying OPEN during this coronavirus pandemic, but that is the case with Minnesota's State Parks.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, which is in charge of running our many incredible Minnesota state parks, released an updated statement regarding how they're responding to the on-going challenges with the COVID-19 outbreak.

And the good news is... the parks are staying open! Yay!

But, as with just about everything else these days, there are going to be a few exceptions and things that will be closed. According to the DNR State Parks website:

State parks, recreation areas, campgrounds, and other public lands remain open to the public for people to enjoy; however, visitors will experience some changes in services available. State park visitor centers, contact stations, and other ancillary buildings will be closed. With contact stations closed, visitors will pay through self-pay and informational kiosks located at each facility.

In addition, all state park naturalist programs are canceled as well. But the parks, themselves, are still open. The DNR put it this way:

We are closely monitoring the situation related to COVID-19 and adjusting our operations as conditions change. We recognize the importance of nature in helping to relieve stress during this time and are committed to providing a safe environment for our visitors to enjoy, while ensuring we protect the health of our staff and Minnesota’s communities.

So, if you want to get outside and get some fresh air and get away from all the coronavirus-related hoo ha, you might want to get a hike in at Whitewater State Park, or maybe Frontenac State Park (two of my favorites right here in our neck of the woods.) Just be sure you don't do it in a group of more than 10 people and keep at least 6-feet apart so you practice the advised 'social distancing.'
