He's been the centerpiece of several successful horror movies, and it totally makes sense that he's also the favorite Halloween movie villain here in Minnesota.

A new survey out this week runs down just which Halloween or horror movie villain is most popular in each state. The crew over at the home entertainment and seating company valenciatheaterseating.com used geotagged Twitter data over the last month (since October 1st) that tracked tweets and hashtags about popular horror villains. Over 100,000 Tweets were tracked to create this new map and survey.

And here in Minnesota, our favorite horror movie is... Jason Voorhees, from the Friday the 13th movie franchise. That's right, Jason beat out other horror movie favorites like Michael Meyers (from the Halloween slasher film series) who happened to take the top spot over in my home state of Wisconsin, plus Iowa, Illinois and a few other states. In addition to being the favorite here in the North Star State, Jason was also the favorite in both Dakotas, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Colorado.

Other horror movie villains who were favorites in multiple states include Pennywise (from It), Freddy Krueger (from Nightmare On Elm Street),  Chucky (from Child's Play), and Hannibal Lecter (from Silence Of The Lambs).

It totally makes sense that Jason would be Minnesota's favorite horror movie villain, though, right? I mean, he's famous for wearing a hockey mask while committing all his dastardly deeds, and this IS The State of Hockey, after all. So I guess it's not much of a surprise he'd be our favorite horror movie villain.
