Minnesota’s Most Googled Definition is ‘Weather’ and I’m Confused
I came across an interesting piece of information that I had to share with you because it's making me thoroughly confused.
Based on Google Search Trends, the most Googled definition in Minnesota for 2026 is for the word 'weather'.
...What?
We're Minnesotans, we shouldn't need to Google the definition of 'weather'.

Minnesotans are Googling the Definition of 'Weather'
The site behind this study is called Word Unscrambler and they were the ones that looked at the Google Search Trends throughout 2026 so far to determine this.
I thought maybe the made a goof and just looked for what word was searched the most in each state and then assumed that meant we were searching for the definition.
But no.
They specifically looked for phrases like 'what is the definition of...', 'define...', and 'definition'. And apparently we Minnesotans are Googling things like 'what is the definition of weather'.
So I needed to Google it myself, because I'm curious and so you don't have to.
What is the Definition of 'Weather'?
If we take the AI Overview that pops up, it says:
Weather is the short-term state of the atmosphere at a specific place and time, focusing on variables like temperature, wind, and precipitation.
Ok, but what about an actual dictionary? Merriam-Webster lists the definition of 'weather' as:
the state of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, wetness or dryness, calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness
Unfortunately, that doesn't tell me why people are Googling the definition of 'weather' in a state that experience dramatic weather changes all the time. Did we learn something? I suppose. Did I contribute to the number of people Googling 'define weather' for some reason? Yes.
