New App Delivers Restaurant Take-Out to You in Rochester
These days, no matter what you want to get done, there's probably an app for that, right? Including having restaurant food delivered right to your door here in Rochester.
The home delivery business is booming these days, thanks to the online behemoth, Amazon. They've made it possible to order just about anything-- while you're sitting on your couch in your comfies-- and have it show up at your door.
Other chains like Walmart and Hv-Vee have started offering the same thing. Just place your order online, pay for it, and someone will deliver your items to you. And while some restaurants have always offered delivery-- think pizza and Chinese restaurants-- now there's a new app that will deliver take-out to you from pretty much any restaurant in Rochester.
It's called DoorDash, and it apparently is just starting its service here in the Med City. Just jump online (or do what I did, and download the DoorDash app on your phone), open your account, find your favorite restaurant, place an order and wait for it to show up on your door. (I may be oversimplifying things a bit, but that's close.)
I even got a DoorDash mailer in that offers me $5 off my first order. It looks pretty cool. Keep in mind though, that it's not free. So, say you order the Tater Tot Hotdish from, say, Wildwood Sports Bar & Grill. (One of my personal favorites.) You place the order on DoorDash, and they then convey to Jim and the Wildwood gang.
Your DoorDasher (as DoorDash calls its delivery drivers) then pick up your order when it's ready and drive it to your door. For a fee, of course. (Which is a little confusing on the app-- some restaurants say 'free delivery,' which means, I'm guessing, that the restaurant won't charge you an extra fee. But there's still a fee from DoorDash... I think.)
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty convenient. I'll give it a whirl and report back on how well it works. Would you use a service like this?
