Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A plan for a new hotel located between the downtown Mayo Clinic campus and St Marys Hospital has cleared its first hurdle.

The plan calls for a Marriott hotel at the northwest corner of the 2nd St/6th Ave SW intersection.

The developer presented the conceptual plan to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday. The commission approved the preliminary plan and it will next be taken up by the City Council. A final plan is expected later this year.

The developer says the six-story hotel will operate under the TownePlace Suites brand. It will consist of around 100 rooms and two levels of underground parking to accommodate up to 88 vehicles.

The Kutzky Park Neighborhood Association spoke in favor of the project at the commission’s meeting.
