The FDA started investigating an outbreak of cyclospora illnesses back on June 19 and linked it to a bagged salad mix. Nothing ruins summer fun quite like a cyclospora parasite, which causes an illness known as cyclosporiasis. The FDA says Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal infection that happens after ingesting contaminated food or water. Common symptoms include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, body aches, and fatigue. You don't want to deal with that so check your bagged salad when you get home.

The Fresh Express website explains, "The recalled products are clearly marked with the letter “Z” at the beginning of the Product Code, which is located on the upper right-hand corner of the front of the package.  Those products containing iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and/or carrots AND displaying the Product Code Z178, or a lower “Z” number, are recalled."

It's important to know that these salads are often sold with different brand names and packaging. The FDA has expanded the original recall which includes ALDI's Little Salad Bar, Hy-Vee bagged salads and Walmart Marketside salads. CNN says the number of people that have gotten sick is close to 650 and that "investigators continue to look into whether other retail brands may be impacted."

full list of recalled products is available on the FDA’s website.
