Rochester Heroes Handing Out Hams for the Holidays
Heroes don't always wear capes, right? Some local heroes are teaming up to give back this holiday season. On December 12, 2018 the Rochester Fire Department, Rochester Police Department, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, and Gold Cross will hand out 400 hams to community members in need.
Fire Chief Erika Kerska shares, “As public safety organizations, we have the privilege of serving the community, especially in times of need. This is our opportunity to not only come together as public safety organizations, but it is also an opportunity to give back to our community during a season that can be especially difficult.”
Virginia Merritt, director of Channel One Food Bank, said: "We are so grateful to the Rochester Fire Department, Rochester Police Department, Olmsted County Sheriff, and Gold Cross Ambulance for leading by example to help end hunger. Everyone wants to create holiday memories that they’ll never forget, but not everyone has a way to put food on their table. This is the perfect time of year for the community to join our first responders in ending hunger.”
The hams are being provided by Hy-Vee and there is a limit of one per person. The ham handout will take place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Army National Guard Armory Parking Lot (1715 Marion Road SE).
