Shocking Study Reveals That People Who Live In Cold Places Drink More
Minnesota, prepare to be FLOORED. Now, I don't know about you, but I've found that a nice glass of whiskey tastes pretty freakin' good after shoveling my sidewalk and driveway after a big snow storm. It truly warms the soul. I love a cold beer on a hot summer day just as much as any red-blooded American, but man, there's just something about drinking booze during the holidays.
But according to Vice, it turns out that might be because of science. A new study from the Pittsburgh Liver Research Center (nice) discovered an interesting equation:
Colder Weather + Fewer Sunlight Hours = Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!
The paper brings up a few theories as to why us Northerners tend to drink more in the winter, including the fact that booze does make you feel warmer. There's also the fact that, well, there's not too much else to do when you're cooped up inside because of the -30 wind chill.
So the next time you show up to work hungover on a Friday, don't blame it on your buddy who ordered another round for the table at happy hour. It's totally Minnesota's fault, man!
