A trip to Target Field in Minneapolis to catch a Minnesota Twins game can be very expensive. I knew that and was prepared to drop a couple of hundred bucks when I loaded up the car to take my family to the ballpark on Mother's Day.

It was a beautiful sunny day in Minneapolis, and the Twins won in extra innings! We had a blast and I don’t regret spending all that money, but I learned some money hacks that I will use on our next trip to the stadium.

Is It Expensive to Go to a Minnesota Twins Game?

It can be very expensive. Bookies.com says the average cost of attending a Major League Baseball game is $208 for a family of four. They bought the cheapest available tickets for their study, a parking spot, two beers, two sodas, and four hot dogs.

$208 is the average for all MLB cities, so fans in some cities will pay more; here in Minnesota, we pay a little less. Sports Illustrated estimates a family of four here will pay $180. Again, those estimates are based on ordering the cheapest tickets and very few concessions.

I’m willing to bet most families are getting more than two beers, two sodas, and four hot dogs. My family certainly did on Sunday.

By the end of the game, we had tried the nachos, two hot dogs, a slice of pizza, four sodas, two beers, a lemonade, and four ice creams, and I was broke. But there are hacks that you can use to save on your next outing.

The same goes for soda. Fountain Pepsi products are between $7.99 - $12.49 throughout Target Field. At the Family Concession Stands, those drinks are only $2.49.

Beer! I paid $14 for a tall boy at the game. At the Family Concession Stands, you can get a 12-oz can for only $5.99.  Grab two and you’ll get more beer for less than one tall boy.

Food is cheaper, too. Popular ballpark snacks like hot dogs ($3.99), soft pretzels ($4.49), popcorn ($3.49), and ice cream novelties ($3.49) are all available at the Family Concession Stands.

Find these cheap concessions in sections 120, 133, and 311.

Yes, if discounted concessions aren’t cheap enough for you, bring a cooler full of snacks.

Target Field’s bag policy says soft-sided coolers (maximum size of 16”x16”x8”) are allowed into the stadium. So load that puppy up before you head to the ball game.

On the team’s site, they say outside food is allowed: “Outside food is allowed into Target Field. Hard-sided containers (Tupperware, hard-sided coolers, Thermos) are not allowed into Target Field. No outside food may be brought into any bar, restaurant, or suite areas at Target Field.”

And, "Sealed, bottled water 32 oz. or less, and soft-sided single juice or milk containers for children are the only outside beverages permitted into Target Field.”

Hopefully, that info helps you save a little on your next trip to see the Twins.
