We Minnesotans love the water. It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a lake, a river, or a pool, we’re there in the summertime! There’s one pool in particular that I just discovered that we need to add as a ‘must-visit’ spot this summer. It’s unique compared to other pools because it has a sandy bottom and is about 90 minutes from Rochester, Minnesota.

As you know, most pools have a solid bottom. But this one in Shakopee is like a lake with its sandy bottom but it’s still chlorinated like a pool. You get the fun of sticking your toes in the sand without the fish coming up to bite you or lake junk sticking to your legs. Don’t get me wrong, I love hanging out in lakes, but I feel like this sandy bottom pool is like the best of both worlds.

The place is called SandVenture Aquatic Park. Not only is the pool bottom sand, but the sand continues outside of the pool so it’s like you’re lounging on a beach. There are also slides and a diving board for the kids (and you too!) to have fun on. Two of the slides are 12-foot drops so you’ll have to be brave to try those.

They opened for the summer at the beginning of June and the last day they’ll be open this summer is August 21st. So make plans to check this place out. If you’ll be in the Shakopee area this summer, that could be the perfect time to check it out! If you’re under 48 inches admission is $5 and over 48 inches is $7.

Also, did you know that you can rent public pools for private events here in southeast Minnesota? That would make for a sweet birthday party! Keep scrolling to see which public pools in the area you can rent out.
