Waseca, MN (KROC-AM News) - An investigator from the State Fire Marshal's Office has been dispatched to Waseca to help determine the cause of a deadly fire.

The Waseca Fire Department says firefighters responded shortly before 6:30 PM yesterday to a report of a structural fire at a residence in northwest Waseca. A news release says firefighters were also notified that a person may have been inside the home.

Waseca Police Officers were the first to arrive at the scene and were blocked from entering by heavy smoke. Once the firefighters arrived, they were able to get inside and carried a woman out of the burning house.

The news release says, despite immediate lifesaving efforts by first responders, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released and the exact cause of her death remains under investigation.
