Your Minnesota Thanksgiving Dinner Will Cost Less This Year
Unlike much of the rest 2020, here's some GOOD news when it comes to your Thanksgiving dinner this year: At least it won't cost you as much.
Thanksgiving 2020 is set to be waaay different than in previous years, thanks to guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health and the U.S. Centers For Disease Control that says to help control the spread of the coronavirus, we really ought not to get together and have that big 'ol dinner with anyone outside our household.
But at least there's one bright spot this year: Your Thanksgiving dinner won't cost you as much here in Minnesota. And, that's not just because there might be fewer people sitting around the table, either.
According to the annual Thanksgiving Dinner price survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation, costs for your Thanksgiving dinner here in 2020 will be about 4 percent less than they were in 2019.
On the menu for the Farm Bureau’s informal survey is turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and coffee and milk, with enough to serve a family of 10-- with plenty for leftovers.
And, the Farm Bureau survey says the average cost of this year’s Thanksgiving feast for 10 remains affordable at $46.90 or less than $5.00 per person-- which is down $2.01 decrease from last year’s average of $48.91. That price drop is mainly due to the price of turkeys, which the AFB says is down quite a bit this year.
Turkeys are pricing about $19.39 for a 16-pound bird. That’s roughly $1.21 per pound, down 7% from last year. The survey results show that retail turkey prices are the lowest since 2010.
So even if Thanksgiving won't necessarily be the same celebration this year (thanks a lot, COVID-19) at least you'll be paying less for it.
