Hundreds of people volunteer their time at the Minnesota State Fair each year to make sure the massive 12-day event runs as smoothly as possible.

Minnesota State Fair officials say these are "essential folks are what make many of our exhibits memorable and engaging. No expertise required – just a willingness to help your fellow fair fans make the most of their day!"

What Do Volunteers at the Minnesota State Fair Do?

Volunteers assist with interactive exhibits, hand out freebies, and help guests navigate around the fairgrounds.

Most shifts are only two or three hours long and each volunteer receives an admission ticket to come back to the fair another day.

The Minnesota State Fair runs for 12 days from late August to Labor Day each year and hundreds of volunteers are needed to make it successful.

You can sign up to volunteer with a group or as an individual and can select specific tasks when registering online.

Their objective is to help visitors have the best fair experience so volunteers are constantly answering questions and guiding people from one attraction to another.

WCCO interviewed the info booth at the State Fair to find out what kind of questions visitors were asking.

"Where can I get a Blue-Ribbon Bargain Book?" was a popular question with guests trying to save some cash.

And, the top question that volunteers get is "Where is the closest bathroom?" The bathrooms might be the most popular attraction at the fair. Fair officials say they go through 22,000 rolls of toilet paper each year.
