
Beautiful Candlelight Hikes Happening this Winter Near Rochester
Once the new year hits and winter is in full swing, it can sometimes be hard to get motivated to leave the house. You just want to hibernate until spring comes! But it's important to still get out, have some fun, and enjoy Minnesota's winter.
One way you can do that is with these beautiful candlelight hikes that are being put on all across Minnesota, including plenty in Southeast Minnesota.

Candlelight Hikes Near Rochester, MN
Candlelight hikes are exactly as they sound; parks across Minnesota will set up luminaries with candles lit inside. Then, you go out after it gets dark and enjoy nature lit up by candlelight.
It's very cool, I've done it a few times and would definitely recommend it!
Candlelight Hikes in Southeast Minnesota
Here is the schedule for candlelight hikes around Southeast Minnesota for 2026. It's totally possible I missed one, so if you know of others, let me know!

January 16th, 2026 - Quarry Hill Nature Center, Rochester
Hike start times: 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30, and 8 PM - $10.38 (with taxes and fees - purchasing tickets in advance is recommended)
The Nature Center will not be open, so dress accordingly. Snowshoes are welcome if you own your own. Skiing is not allowed on the trail. Pets are also not allowed. Tickets include a cup of gourmet hot cocoa.
January 24th, 2026 - Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, Nerstrand
5:30-8:30 PM - free (but you need a state park pass for your vehicle)
There will be snowshoes for rent (limited quantity), free hot cocoa and hot cider, and a bonfire.
January 31st, 2026 - Frontenac State Park, Frontenac
6-8 PM - free (but you need a state park pass for your vehicle)
There will be snowshoes and skis for rent, plus free hot drinks and bonfires.
February 14th, 2026 - Forestville Mystery Cave State Park, Preston
5:30-8:30 PM - free (but you need a state park pass for your vehicle)
Hot cocoa and cookies will be available for free.
