8 Ghost Tours You Can Go On In Minnesota

Whether during spooky season, or any time of year, a ghost tour can be a fun way to learn about some history and the spooky lore of a town or neighborhood.

Minnesota has a number of fun ghost tours that span anywhere from a full-blown focus on the paranormal to exploring the ghosts of the past through storytelling and other elements provided by tour guides and their teams - with some blending the two together.

If you want to go on a spooky stroll, hear some creepy tales, and maybe even see something you didn't expect, here are some great options around the Land of 10,000 Lakes!

Minneapolis Real Ghost Tours

Billing themselves as the "original and only real ghost tour", this experience offers a 90-minute guided walking tour of the St. Anthony Main neighborhood in Minneapolis, featuring a number of historic locations like main street,  Pillsbury A Mill complex, Soap Factory Complex, Stone Arch Bridge, and Father Hennepin Bluffs.

During these tours, guests get audio equipment so they can hear the guide as they share true stories about actual places in Minneapolis. Organizers pride themselves in offering a "thoroughly researched dramatization" that draws from real legends, history, and places in the area of the tour.

Duluth Ghost Tours

This is not just any three-hour tour. explore the history, shipwreck tales, hauntings, and other elements of Duluth on this experience that traverses about 1.7 miles of walking and even includes a 30-minute paranormal investigation.

If a three-hour, nearly two-mile adventure seems like a little much, organizers do say that there are multiple stops along the way with the opportunity to get off your feet for a time. The paranormal investigation is also at the end of the tour, with the option to depart early if you'd like to do so.

Stillwater Ghost Walks

Known as the "birthplace of Minnesota", Stillwater is steeped in history - and with it, lots of ghost-filled lore.

This 90-minute tour includes stops at a number of historical Stillwater locations like the Lolito Cantina, which was featured on the Biography Channel show "My Ghost Story". Other stops include the Water Street Inn, bootlegger caves, and the Arcola High Bridge, where Stillwater's most famous ghost carries a blue light across the bridge.

Ghosts of Anoka Walking Tour

Why not enjoy a ghost tour in the Halloween Capitol of the World?

Put on by the Anoka County Historical Society, these particular tours blend history and folklore in the Anoka area and include visits to the sites of unexplained events. Tours are led by costumed tour guides and last about an hour. The ACHS also provides a bus tour and Monuments to Life Cemetery Tour as part of their series of offerings.

Go behind the scenes of the iconic Union Pacific railroad depot and hear entertaining and spooky ghost stories about the depot and Lowertown neighborhood during this 90-minute tour.

Red Wing Ghost Walks

Red Wing is a town with a long and storied history in Minnesota. That history includes a lot of interesting lore and, of course, plenty of haunted locations.

This tour spans 1.5 hours, guiding visitors along a route that includes stops at the historic Sheldon Theatre, Colvill Park, and St. James Hotel - which has lots of stories of creepy happenings, unexplained cold spots, and other mysterious occurrences.

Wabasha Street Caves Tour - St. Paul

The Wabasha Street Caves offer a number of different tours throughout the year, with a couple of them dedicated to ghosts.

One of them, called the "Lost Souls Cave Tour", explores one of the places the Star Tribune called one of the most haunted places in Minnesota. The tour dives into the history of gangsters, murder, and spooky sightings since those days. These tours last about an hour.

The other, called the "Caves & Graves" tour, is a seasonal tour aboard a motorcoach, visiting some of the most haunted places in the area. This tour starts at the Wabasha Caves and includes a stop at one of the oldest cemeteries in St. Paul - after dark. Dramatic tellings of ghost stories from the area add to this spooky experience.

Thayer Hotel in Annandale

This isn't quite as much of a tour as it is an experience where you could stay IN a haunted hotel!

The website HauntedHouses.com says this hotel is full of a "boatload" of friendly spirits that include the original owners of the establishment.

The current hotel owners don't shy away from the spooky lore, either. This classic hotel provides a stay in a beautiful building that was constructed in 1895. While the hotel preserves many elements of the classic look, it does feature modern amenities like AC, Wi-Fi, and TVs with Roku streaming devices.

While spirits have been seen around the hotel, one particular room seems to be the epicenter of activity. Known as Crystal's Haunted Suite, Room 305 is apparently the room to stay in if you want to spend the night with some spirits. Their website shares one of the spookiest stories about the room which involves glass french doors to the bathroom slowly closing while a couple staying in the room watched the doors close just a couple of feet away in the room's Jacuzzi.
