World Snow Sculpting Competition is Back in Minnesota Next Month

For the third year, Minnesota is going to be hosting the World Snow Sculpting Championship! People from not just around the US but from around the world will be traveling to our state for this competition.

The championship will take place in mid-January. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and the competition won't be canceled or delayed because of the warm weather we've been having.

Minnesota Ice Festival Canceled Because of Warm Weather

Just the other week the Minnesota Ice Festival was canceled due to the above-average temperatures. It would have caused an unsafe event and also not a pretty one with melty ice everywhere.

World Snow Sculpting Championship is Back in Minnesota

So far so good for the snow sculpting competition though! They'll be hosting the event in Stillwater again along the shores of the St. Croix River.

The sculptures from past years have been insane:

How do they get snow to look like that?!

The event kicks off on January 17th and will run through January 21st. While you can hang out and watch the teams do their work there will also be other activities going on. Those include the opening ceremony, an indoor market, and a block party.

The awards are given out to the top teams on Saturday, January 20th but you can still see the sculptures and check out things like the indoor market on the 21st.

As far as I'm aware, as long as it stays cold and the city of Stillwater is cool with it, the snow sculptures stick around. So if you aren't able to see the competition but can make it to Stillwater later in the winter I believe the sculptures will still be there to see!
