Park Rapids, MN (KROC-AM News)- A teenage girl was killed in a head-on crash on a rural Minnesota highway Thursday.

A car and a pick-up were involved in the fatality. The State Patrol responded to the deadly two-vehicle collision shortly after 10:00 Thursday morning. 

No passengers were in either vehicle. The deadly crash happened on Hwy. 34 just east of Park Rapids in northern Minnesota’s Hubbard County.

The teenager was driving the car east on Hwy. 34 when a westbound pick-up crossed over the center line and collided head-on with the girl's car, the state crash report says.

17-year-old Alyssa Marie Wheeler of Longville, MN was identified as the car driver. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

50-year-old Don Michael Sherman was driving the pick-up. The Akeley, MN man was taken to a hospital for treatment of what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Both of the drivers were buckled up and alcohol was not involved in the deadly crash, according to the state crash report.
