It all started as a joke. I just love that's how this now 8-year tradition got started.

There's a neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota that will be hosting a special event for the 8th year in a row. It brings out masses of people to the streets, going from house to house.

You might think that it's an art tour, and people have set out the art that they've done. Nope. You might think that there's live music playing at houses around the neighborhood. Also no.

It's even simpler than that, and it makes me laugh and smile because it's so cute and hilarious.

Hundreds of people take to the streets of the Wedge neighborhood in Minneapolis to look at other people's cats.

Minneapolis Cat Tour

Seriously, this isn't a joke! But it was.

In 2017, John Edwards wanted to create a walking tour that wasn't of old, historic homes. He told MPR, "'I thought, why don’t we do a tour of cats in windows instead of the historic homes tours, which I have no interest in.'"

He told People Magazine that it started small with about 20 people or so and they would admire the cats that happened to be in the windows of the homes they passed by.

Then, in 2019, he realized it could actually be a big event. He shared information about the cat tour, and 2019 was the first year when hundreds of people arrived. Just to look at cats!

Last year, in 2024, an estimated 500 people came out to walk the Wedge neighborhood and see people's cats.

Of course, now it's gotten so big that the cat owners also participate. Instead of just having to look at cats in the windows, many cat owners bring their cats outside for the event to say hello. Many put out signs with information and fun facts about their cat.

My absolute favorite thing is the signs that some people had last year that simply say "Show Us Your Cats".
