First of all, I just need to say "way to go" to all the people taking the plunge. This is one fundraiser that I have never been brave enough to do. As of Friday morning, just shy of 900 people were signed up to jump into the ice-cold Foster Erend Lake for the 19th annual Rochester Polar Plunge. And so far, more than $210,000 has been raised to support Special Olympics Minnesota. Amazing!

With more locations than ever, 2020 is shaping to be the most generous Polar Plunge season in history. There are 29 Polar Plunge events across the state, with Rochester being the second largest just behind Minneapolis. They estimate that Minnesotans will raise over $4 million for the Special Olympics this year.

The Polar Plunge is SOMN’s biggest fundraiser and ensures thousands of adults and children with intellectual disabilities will be included in their community by way of sports, health initiatives and leadership training.

You can watch the action on Saturday. It begins at 1:30 PM at Foster Arend Park. You can donate and/or get live updates by clicking here. Also, local students and teachers will do their own Cool School Polar Plunge at 11 am today. Nearly 100 students and teachers are participating and have raised nearly $10,000.
