Several months ago Apple admitted that they were purposely slowing down older iPhones. The company said they were doing this to prevent problems with older batteries. So naturally, owners rushed out to get new batteries.

According to USA Today: In late December, Apple responded to consumer complaints by saying it would reduce the price of replacement batteries for iPhone 6 models or later from $79 to $29.

Apple is now offering a $50 refund to anyone that purchased a replacement battery at full price. says customers should expect an email with instructions on how to claim the refund soon. The consumer tech sites says, "Apple says the refund will be issued through an electronic funds transfer or as credit on the card that paid for the battery replacement. Customers who are eligible for the refund should hear from Apple through email between May 23 and July 27 on how to obtain the credit."
