Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – A Rochester man is accused of choking his ex-girlfriend - and then attacking her father with a shovel.

Rochester Police Sergeant Eric Strop says officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of 9th Ave SE around 8:00 PM Wednesday and arrested 19-year-old Vonte Ross-Kindred.

Strop says his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend told officers he confronted her outside her parents’ home and began choking her. She said when her father came to her rescue, Ross-Kindred began hitting him with a shovel over the head, shoulders, and back. The 62-year-old man went to the hospital for treatment of injuries police said were non-life threatening.

Ross-Kindred was arrested on felony and domestic assault and other charges.
