Exciting News for Rochester Foodies: New Spot Coming to Downtown
Earlier this week, we learned that a downtown Rochester restaurant had suddenly closed. Big Head Burrito announced the closure on Facebook, saying it was closing immediately and looking for a new location.
This latest shakeup is nothing new for the downtown dining scene, which has seen numerous restaurants come and go over the last several years.
The Half Barrel, located at the corner of 1st and 3rd, became 507 Public House for a minute, but is now Lucky's; Hefe Rojo and Newt's have become BEBAP Korean BBQ; and Pescara has been replaced by Mill Valley Kitchen, and Green-N-Fresh, in Peace Plaza, also closed.
Green-N-Fresh became Peacock Books and Bistro, a fried chicken joint for book lovers?!? but that didn't last. Today, we learned that an established Minnesota restaurant will take over that spot.

Exciting News for Rochester Foodies: New Spot Coming to Peace Plaza
Jeff Kiger from the Post Bulletin reported, “Angel and Elena Ruelas plan to bring The Taco Shop to the heart of Rochester.”
Angel and Elena operate several Mexican restaurants and a Food Truck in the Twin Cities area and are expanding to the Med-City.
I checked out the menu of their St. Louis Park Taco Shop, and it looks incredible.
On their site, they brag about having the “largest portions and biggest flavors in Minneapolis” and offering “the most affordable tacos around!”
They have everything you’d expect, like tacos, burritos, and nachos. They say their mission is to “become the most popular Mexican restaurant in town!”
