Former Packers and Vikings Star Heading for Prison

Former Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings star safety, Darren Sharper, was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison on Thursday (August 18). The five-time NFL Pro-Bowler was convicted of drugging and raping three women by a federal court in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In total, Sharper has been accused of drugging and raping as many as 16 women in four different states. His sentence today (August 18), which totals 18 years and four months, was just 15 months less than the maximum sentence allowed in the case.

Sharper spent 14 seasons in the NFL, including eight with the Green Bay Packers, four with the Minnesota Vikings and his final two with the New Orleans Saints, where he was a member of their Super Bowl XLIV-winning squad. His last season in the NFL was in 2010-2011.

According to a Fox Sports report, Sharper "has pleaded guilty or no contest in state courts in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada to charges arising from allegations of drugging and raping women."

So, it would seem that this may be just the beginning of continued legal proceedings for the man who finished his career sixth all-time in the NFL with 63 career interceptions.
