A recent survey of 1,000 Americans showed that 9 out of 10 people have admitted to sniffing food from the fridge to make sure it’s good to eat!

Two-thirds of those asked said they aren't sure how long food is good for and when it will spoil. Worry no longer and please stop sniffing your food. The Mayo Clinic offered this answer on their website:

"Keep leftovers in the fridge no more than four days to prevent food poisoning. If you won't eat leftovers that quickly, freeze them immediately. For best food safety, refrigerate perishable foods, such as meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs and casseroles, within two hours, or within one hour in temperatures above 90 F (32 C). Uncooked foods, such as cold salads or sandwiches, also should be eaten or refrigerated promptly."
