Snow Coming: How Much Minnesota Will Get This Weekend (Jan 11-12)

A big shout-out to my neighbor who bought a new snowmobile in late 2023 but still hasn’t been able to take it for a spin. Many outdoor enthusiasts across the state feel his frustration. Last winter was warmer than usual because of El Niño, with very little snow, and while the temperatures have been cooler this year, most of us are still waiting for a big snowstorm.

Farmer's Almanac Updates Minnesota Winter Forecast

The Farmer's Almanac just updated its prediction for the rest of winter here in Minnesota. While the region just experienced a cold snap, the Almanac suggests that this winter won’t be as harsh as it typically is, with only a couple more cold spells expected.

A chilly period is forecasted for the end of January, followed by another cold stretch from late February to early March.

The Almanac is predicting snowy periods in mid to late January, early February, and again in mid-March, but overall snowfall will be below average again this year.

Snow Coming: How Much Minnesota Will Get This Weekend

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says confidence is growing that snow will accumulate across the state. They expect light snow to begin Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday.

This system might linger over the area this weekend but don't expect major snow totals.

It doesn't take much to make for difficult travel conditions so continue to monitor the forecast and allow extra time to reach your destination safely if the roads get slippery.
