Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police have noticed an uptick in mail thefts in recent weeks and the public is being advised to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

A Rochester man did just that Tuesday and helped catch a mail thief.

The man saw a car pull up to a cluster of mailboxes in the 3600 block of 8 ½ St NW around 8:00 PM. He saw a woman get out of the car and start looking through the mailboxes. The man was able to take pictures of the woman and the license plate number of the car and called police. Officers later made contact with the woman and she was arrested after she turned over a bottle of prescription pills she had stolen from one of the boxes.

Facing felony mail theft charges is 20-year-old Nicole Thorson.

A bag of stolen mail was turned over to the police department earlier Tuesday.
