I hope you're hungry for gyros!

Thanks to a new article from The Des Moines Register, we now know that a popular restaurant chain called The Halal Guys is planning to open multiple locations here in the state of Iowa. Some of those locations will be close to us here in the Corridor! The Register says there will be five restaurants total, and they'll be located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Des Moines.

For folks not familiar with The Halal Guys, it's a popular restaurant chain that specializes in "platters of chicken and gyro over rice, falafel sandwiches, and crave-able sauces." It got its start back in 1990 when three Egyptian immigrants, Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka, and Abdelbaset Elsayed, opened New York City's first Halal food cart. The cart grew so popular that in 2014, they started opening restaurants across the country! According to the official website, The Halal Guys mission is to "delight each customer with unparalleled hospitality and mouthwatering food at great prices."

The menu at The Halal Guys features gyros, platters, and sandwiches, as well as falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, fries, and baklava. The Des Moines Register also mentions their famous White Sauce, which contains Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, sugar, white vinegar, lemon juice, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper. You can even purchase it in little pouches!

The Halal Guys currently has over 400 new locations in the works across the globe, but there's no word yet on when the Iowa locations are expected to open, or even exactly where those restaurants will be. We will be sure to keep you updated when we hear more! In the meantime, you can check out some of the delicious food on the restaurant's Instagram page HERE.
